Jim Grasser, 303 BBQ

Years ago, Jim Grasser experimented with flavors to find an unbeatable barbecue recipe. Encouraged by his love for good food - and by friends and family who loved to taste his creations - Jim founded 303 BBQ and cooked up the perfect combination of spices, an irresistible rub that barbecue dreams are made of. As 303 BBQ grew, Jim knew that Triton Capital was the obvious lender to partner with, as Triton works closely with a variety of restaurants and food vendors.

303 BBQ didn’t take off right away. Instead, it simmered. It sat and warmed and broiled, slowly gaining steam. Jim started by selling bottles of the rub locally and at markets in his native Colorado, then to farther-reaching kitchens. Eventually, Jim found himself shipping daily to places as far away as Oregon and Florida.

“Triton Capital isn’t looking at me like a pay date. They’re dealing with me as a friend.”

Jim realized he had something special on his hands, and he expanded his operation to compete in barbecue cook-offs. An aroma of success seemed to effuse around Jim and his recipe, awarding him enough money and reputation to keep his dream from sizzling out.

As he traveled from city to city and competition to competition, Jim devised a new plan: why not give the people what they want? Why not bring fully prepared barbecue to locals? Jim dreamt of a future in a food truck. It was a lofty goal, but Jim knew he could achieve it with a little help from Triton Capital.

After struggling to get anywhere with various banks, Jim was tired of the traditional route for acquiring an equipment loan. As Jim recalls, “They didn’t understand my business, and they didn’t care if I succeeded or fell flat on my face. But Triton is different. Triton Capital is not looking at me like a pay date. They’re dealing with me as a friend.”

Jim Grasser's smoker for 303 BBQTriton Capital engineered an equipment loan for Jim to purchase a concession trailer and further his goals with 303 BBQ. Jim says the entire process of applying, getting approved, and ultimately receiving the truck was as easy as could be. “I tell you what,” Jim says. “I’ve been in many roles in my career. I break down processes and put them back together to make them easier for people to understand. And that’s exactly what Triton Capital does with financing.”

“Instead of taking away from my business or me, they supported my business ventures and turned a difficult process into a pleasant one.”

The loan helped Jim Grasser expand 303 BBQ, as well as improve his business credit. “I look forward to working with the Triton Capital team again on my next business loan,” says Jim. “Instead of taking away from my business or me, they supported my ventures and turned a difficult process into a pleasant one. I know we have a good partnership that will grow in the future.”

303 BBQ’s latest venture has Jim selling the fan favorite barbecue rub and fare in a food truck purchased with an equipment loan from Triton Capital.
